Our Promise

Internal Review

Our Promise is not a contract and it is not a legal document. It is a statement of the values we intend to hold ourselves to as nu Avanti grows. Where a value and a legal obligation differ, our policies govern.

Using a bit of technology to foster human connection

nu Avanti exists because the middle of life is not the end of adventure. Moving abroad at 55 or 70 is exciting, and it can also be lonely. We want technology here to get out of the way of real conversations rather than replace them.

What we aim for

Privacy by design
We aim to ask for the minimum we need, keep it in private storage, and give you tools to take it back.
Safety first
We aim to design for respectful behaviour and give you clear guidance and controls. We cannot guarantee anyone's conduct, and we say so plainly.
Transparency
We aim to describe what the platform actually does today, and to mark clearly what is still planned.
Your control
We aim to keep export and deletion self-service, and to make leaving as easy as joining.
Inclusivity
We aim to build a community that welcomes members across nationality, background, faith, orientation, and circumstance.
Connection over engagement
We do not intend to optimise for time spent in the app. A member who logs off to meet someone for coffee is the outcome we want.

What we will not do

  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not intend to.
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not intend to.
  • We do not intend to introduce mechanics designed to keep you scrolling.

If any of this changes, we will say so here and in the version history rather than change it quietly.

Where to hold us to account

If something here is wrong, unclear, or falls short of how we behave in practice, we would rather hear it than not. Use whichever route fits. We read everything that comes in, and we will say honestly when something is not something we can act on.

Inaccurate informationContact us and quote the page and sentenceWe correct it or explain why we read it differently, and log the change in version history.
Confusing languageContact us with the wording that tripped you upWe consider a rewrite at the next review of that document.
Accessibility concernsAccessibility Statement, then contact usWe record the barrier and describe our current conformance position honestly.
Security concernsResponsible DisclosureWe acknowledge reports we receive and investigate; we do not run a paid bounty.
Privacy concernsYour Privacy Rights, or request your data directlyWe respond to rights requests as applicable law requires.
Policy questionsContact us, naming the policyA plain-language answer, or a clear statement that we cannot give legal advice.
Trust concernsContact us, or read Our Promise alongside the policy that governsWhere a value and a policy conflict, we will tell you which one governs.
SuggestionsContact usWe read them all. We cannot promise a timeline or that we will build it.

Raising something with us does not create a legal obligation on either side, and it is not a substitute for exercising your rights under applicable law.

Community Guidelines

Tell us when we fall short

  1. v1.7 • 19:40 UTCTransparencyPrivacyProduct
    • Made Contact Us list each route a person has confirmed as live, read from the confirmation record rather than written into the page
    • Recorded the first confirmed route — privacy — after the founder confirmed external delivery and that the mailbox is monitored
    • Reworded the contact-status note so unpublished routes are described as such without asserting any mailbox state
  2. v1.6 • 04:40 UTCTransparencyProductCommunity
    • Published the full meaning of the name on its own page
    • Added a beta notes page, and stated plainly that notes are read rather than individually answered
    • Listed the six contact routes, including a general address, and stated plainly that none is published yet
  3. v1.5 • 14:05 UTCTransparencyProductCommunity
    • Removed invite-first and exclusivity language from how we describe membership
    • Stated that beta describes the state of the product, not who is allowed to join
    • Described stepping away from a connection, and that it is not a report and nobody is told
  4. v1.3 • 11:20 UTCTransparencyProduct
    • Updated where-we-are-today to reflect shipped community, Right Now and moderation
  5. v1.2 • 22:10 UTCTransparencyLegalCommunity

    • Converted version history to categorised release notes
